Papers of Auguste Jean Marie Bachelot de La Pylaie, 1819-1820.

Consists of a sheet of manuscript which is titled: Joncs et Luzules observies à li̕le de terre neuve which contains a list of 18 Juncus and 3 Luzula, with brief descriptions of locations where they were found. Judging by the paper and the handwriting, the notes date from the first half of the nineteenth century.

Bachelot De la Pylaie pursued varied interests in exploration, botany, archeology and politics. He traveled to Newfoundland in 1816 and 1819-1820, collected botanical specimens and made notes on the flora of the area. He planned to produce a more extensive description of Newfoundland flora that would include his own illustrations, but he only suceeded in publishing the first part of Flore de terre-neuve et les Iles St. Pierre et Miclon, in 1829.
